Bernard Duke stared with undivided attention at his 19 year old son Benjamin. His facial expression, that was solidly hardened by focus soon melted drastically to reveal a warm smile, as he watched his son and his friends follow Helen's backside with their youthful eyes until she was out of sight, Helen was his new Secretary. But to be frank, he didn't blame their eyes for going on that voyage. Helen was a hell of a woman, shaped like a Greek goddess. But that did not stop him from revealing his side smile and backing it up with the statement “men will always be men.”
He soon returned his gaze to his vast living room. "the price I had to pay to be successful" he thought, as he felt the furniture leading to the stairway with the tip of his fingers. He paused as a thought struck him to a halt "I will have to tell Benjamin the truth sooner or later."
He then took a quick glance at his wristwatch before deciding that he had given Benjamin and his friends enough time. "Benjamin it's time to go" he began, "say a quick goodbye to your friends", he concluded. And his son gave a quick hug to his friends as the journey to the village with his father was about to commence.
Father and son soon got in the car and were on their way. As the journey commenced, Benjamin picked up a newspaper from the back seat; an action he did just to impress his father, of course Bernard had to smile because current affairs that did not concern music or the entertainment world was not his son's thing at all.
As the journey progressed, Bernard soon started driving at high speed. And since Benjamin was blocking his own vision by pretending to read the news paper, he did not see the lady who was trying to cross the road, and by the time she got to the middle of the road it was almost too late. The screeching of tires on the tarred Road and his father's efforts to hold the brake got Benjamin to drop his pretence immediately, as panic rocketed round his body.
"God have mercy", father and son chanted with a mixture of fear and panic, as Bernard managed to hold the brakes and get the car to a halt before getting to the lady. She soon turned to look at father and son in the realisation of what almost happened, as she stood transfixed in the middle of the tarred Road. But once Bernard got to see the lady's face, he became mortified "Lizzy", "Lizzy", he said in horror, "this can't be, I thought you were dead?". Who is Lizzy? his confused son was forced to ask. "your mother" came the short reply as Bernard moved the car farther back on high speed out of fear, and the brakes failed, thus the car swerved off the road, into a bush, where it ran straight into a massive tree.
Bernard was conscious for a while, as he held the hand of his son who was already unconscious. He made to call for help, but decided to use his last strength instead to say the words "Benjamin, you are my world" before blacking out.
He soon woke up in the hospital, and the first question he asked the nurse who was in the room was, "where is my son?" the nurse tried to be calm, before letting him know that his son was in a critical condition and needed surgery, indeed Benjamin's condition was worse off as Bernard miraculously sustained only minor injuries.
They soon called the hospital's best surgeon who had earlier gone on a break to take on Benjamin's case. The doctor walked into the ICU and on seeing Benjamin's face, the doctor stepped back with a mixture of panic and horror.
I cannot take this case, the doctor blurted out and everyone present stared at the Doctor confused. Please call in Doctor Agu, the Doctor shouted as a matter of urgency, why? one of the nurses asked, no longer able to hide her confusion, and in reply the doctor answered, "Because this young man, is my son!"
Could this be Benjamin's real father, grand father or Mrs Duke?...
